Atlanta Adoption Agency Reports Golf Marathon a
Great Success
Georgia AGAPE,
a faith based Atlanta adoption agency, reports
having another successful golf fund-raising
event on May 17, 2010.

June 15, 2010 - Georgia AGAPE, Inc., a
licensed child placing agency, reports having
another successful golf fund-raising event on
May 17, 2010. This nonprofit agency provides
family foster care, adoption and counseling
services throughout the entire Atlanta metro
area. It has been serving the needs of Georgia’s
children and families for over 40 years now.
Georgia AGAPE is
a faith based Atlanta adoption agency, primarily
supported by the Churches of Christ in Georgia.
AGAPE (ah-gah-pay) is the Greek word for
unconditional love found in the New Testament.
They call this
event a “Golf Marathon” as this activity is not
just a one day event, but encompasses months of
work by both volunteers and agency staff. The
agency secures volunteers to serve as Team
Captains who assemble a 4 person team to commit
to raising funds and then, after several months
of fund raising, come and play golf to celebrate
the success of their efforts.
There were 26
teams who participated this year and they
collectively raised over $125,000 as of May
17th. Additional funds for this event will
continue to come in over the next several
months.
Amazingly, a few
teams raised over $25,000 each. The teams played
36 holes of golf and finished the day with an
awards ceremony with gifts given for the top
fund raising teams and the winners of the golf
competitions.
In addition to
the teams raising funds, there were several
sponsors of the event. The Atlanta Business Bank
became a naming sponsor and so the event was
officially called the “Atlanta Business Bank and
Georgia AGAPE Golf Marathon” this year.
Doug Mead,
Executive Director of Georgia AGAPE, said, “This
was the 14th consecutive year for this event and
it was one of our best ever. This is quite an
accomplishment given the tight economic times we
are under.” Funds raised in this event go to
support the foster care and adoption programs of
the agency.
