Volunteering one’s
time and effort can certainly be described as
“love in action”. Volunteers, by definition, do
things out of the goodness of their hearts and
of their own free will. Also, they make a huge
difference in our society.
It is estimated that 56% of adults volunteer for
non-profits, representing roughly 109 million
Americans. What volunteers bring to non-profits
is not only caring service, but also a
substantial amount of money as a result of the
savings from what it would cost the
organizations to pay people to do the work of
volunteers.
This underscores all the more how important
volunteers are to organizations!
There are a variety
of volunteer opportunities at Georgia AGAPE to
help fulfill the mission of the agency. They
include helping with the following:
Newsletter mailings
– Helping with the bulk mail process of putting
on labels and stuffing envelopes into the
newsletters.
Golf Marathon –
Helping lead a team or participating as a
teammate in the raising of funds.
Foster care events –
Helping with our annual picnics and the periodic
trainings we have for foster parents.
Office support –
Helping with data entry, mailings, accounting
work, etc.
Special endeavors –
Using people’s special skills and talents to
help us in special projects, such as graphic
design work for our materials, electrical and
carpentry work for our office building, etc.
As a licensed organization, volunteers having
independent contact with children under our care
and supervision must be screened by way of a
criminal background check and a reference check.
The liability of an organization requires due
diligence in screening volunteers for the safety
and well being of the children.
