Family counseling is a different kind of relationship counseling.  Therapy in this area seeks to help all concerned deal with the issues between one another.  The parent may need help to know what to do as the child is learning appropriate behaviors.  The child may need help trying to understand the difficulties of life.  The therapist will provide a way for each to express thoughts and feelings and then options for response.

Blended Families
Blended families have become a large part of our society today.  They also have some unique issues to handle.  Parenting and maintaining relationships take on a different perspective.  Therapy with a blended family can provide the needed tools to strengthen relationships and provide appropriate boundaries.

One of the most rewarding tasks we do is bringing children into the world.  Parenting is one of the most difficult things we do, too.  Parenting can be wrapped up in one goal: raising children to become responsible, Christian and independent contributing citizens of society.  If it were only so easy!!  There are so many things that affect our children.  Some we can control, others we cannot.  There are times that professional help is needed to help guide the children in the best path.

Adolescence is one of the most difficult times of life. It’s a time when one is developing as an individual, seeks independence and greater responsibilities, yet does not have the knowledge and wisdom (maturity) to always make the best choices.  There are also negative influences that adolescents should reasonably be guarded against and when appropriate boundaries need to be set.  There are experiences they must handle that even mature adults have difficulty handling.  Therapy with a teenager will give them skills or tools to help them through these difficult years.  Therapy with parents and teens can help establish appropriate boundaries.

Extended Families
The cliché says, “When you get married, you marry the whole family.”  With the wedding comes the task of learning a different way to do things, a different way to look at life, and compromising regarding events and situations.  Therapy will help the couple discuss differences, set healthy boundaries and what each family can bring to their lives.

Elder Care/Aging Parents
Our society is getting older.  More people are living longer which can mean hardship or difficulties for those who care for the elderly.  The elderly have specific challenges and the mind is just not as sharp as it used to be.  The elderly can benefit from therapy as they deal with the fast pace of our society.  Those who care for the elderly can also benefit from the extra support afforded them by a therapist.
